INSIDE POLO with Ron Allen

It was a familiar match up in the finals of the Gold Cup: Cambiaso vs.
Facundo. I happened last fall, three times, in Argentina. They met earlier
this season in Florida in the Whitney Cup with Facu’s Zacara team
winning by a goal. But Cambiaso’s Valiente team wanted to win the Gold
Cup for a second year in a row.

Pelon Stirling (10) scored first for Valiente at the 3:30 mark of the
opening period and by the end of the second Zacara took an early 4
to 2 lead. One of those points came on an amazing 90-yard goal from
Facundo Pieres (10). Zacara was leading by one at the half as Adolfo

Cambiaso (10) failed to score in the first three periods of play.

Following the mid-game break it was all about Valentes’ horsepower as
they out scored Zacara with six unanswered goals, four of those points
from Adolfo as he took control of the game. In the final two minutes of
the 5th chukker Valiente scored three times. A big day for the Jornayvaz
family as Valiente wins the Gold Cup for the second year in a row 13 to 9.
